Cosmica Spacelines and Emxys unveil suborbital payload experiment rack.
Naples, Italy (October 1st, 2012) – Emxys and Cosmica Spacelines unveiled “SuPER”, their Suborbital Payload Experiment Rack, today at the 63rd International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Naples, Italy. SuPER is a multipurpose payload housing which can be configured to carry diverse experiment platforms with standard or customer specific interfaces. SuPER gives researchers access to several minutes of microgravity in a pressurized cabin environment and will fly on the Lynx Mark I suborbital reusable launch vehicle (sRLV), manufactured by XCOR Aerospace. Preliminary design of the payload rack has been completed and is being presented in an informational brochure to attendees at the IAC. “Bringing this product to market now gives Cosmica and Emxys an early start towards satisfying the needs of suborbital researchers.” according to Garrett Smith, Founder, President & COO of Cosmica Spacelines. “Feedback from the user community will allow us to develop a capable and market-ready SuPER in time for the first commercial flights on Lynx.” First flight of the Lynx is scheduled for early 2013 with commercial flights starting after completion of a comprehensive flight test program.

SuPER is a dedicated 19” equipment rack designed to accommodate standard PXI interfaces and other form factors, including the popular cubesat standard, by using modular interface adapters. SuPER will fly adjacent to a professional astronaut pilot to 60km altitude in place of the right seat of the Lynx suborbital vehicle. Emxys and Cosmica Spacelines will share further details of the design with suborbital researchers as the design progresses towards manufacture and first flight.
